FAQ
How will I manage my CSPP power plant if I don't know anything about solar power or electricity?
With the CSPP you will have real time information from your power plant available online 24 hours a day. Coyle Solar will be with you every day all day — 24 hour support and troubleshooting, power system use and forecast analysis, behind the meter ROI strategies, and even Virtual Power Plant Arbitrage sales options. Coyle Solar will help you make sense of your power consumption and turn insight into action.
Is the CSPP safe to power my home?
Yes, the CSPP can be connected safely to any power system — in fact the CSPP is safer than all the other solutions out there. The CSPP actually adds multiple layers of over current protection, uses no explosive or flammable fuels like a Generac style backup system. Fire and explosion safe LFP BESS chemistry, as well as being located outside of your home, the CSPP is on the ground — not on your roof — so maintenance and inspection is as safe as walking in your own backyard.
How long does it take to deploy the array?
It takes two people about an hour to deploy the PV array — which consists of taking the CSPP ‘Transport Cube’ walls down, and inserting them into the crown assembly and transforming from wall into the PV array substrate , securing in place with the cam locking fasteners, placing the PV modules from inside the cube onto the array substrate and securing with the breakaway fasteners, and then finally interconnecting the PV module MC4 power cable connectors. It requires no electrical knowledge and no special tooling.
What kind of area do I need for a CSPP?
First and foremost: you need a full sun area — without full sun the CSPP will be limited in its effectiveness and capability. Secondly, the CSPP requires 18’ x 26’ of clear ground space — the PV array moves throughout the day and night as the CSPP tracks the sun continuously, returns to flat position during high wind events, or prepositions for the next morning.
Will the CSPP power my whole house?
Yes, a single unit of the CSPP will power your whole house, with more than 20 kVA of continuous power output, and surge capacity of 44 kVA the CSPP can replace a typical 100 Amp utility service. With the CSPP energy storage and power generation capability, a single CSPP has a ‘resiliency factor’ of 85%-100% when powering the typical 25 kWh daily household electrical load. That is a fancy way of saying you won’t need the Grid for a typical American family home.
How long will a CSPP last?
All of the materials and hardware used in the CSPP are robust, durable and designed to last for decades of exterior use in all weather scenarios. The power components are all premium quality with industry leading warranties, for example: The BESS system is warrantied for 8000 cycles/11 years, but the battery will function for decades. The warranty covers power capability degradation, meaning the battery will still function with 80% of its original capacity after 8000 cycles — but in the real world these batteries are lasting longer than anyone forecast — and so will your CSPP!
What happens if a component does break down?
Coyle Solar designs, manufactures, and delivers Every CSPP shipment complemented with spare parts packages, meaning OEM replacement parts are directly available and in the country — wherever you are. We partner with you — our customers! With Coyle Solar customer service we provide 24 hour assistance, including getting your replacement parts on the way immediately.
What is the maintenance required for a CSPP?
The PV modules must be cleaned regularly, generally once a month minimum to ensure timely removal of any fouling from animals and any dust grime accumulation. Washing the modules with warm water and gentle brush takes about 30-45 minutes, because the CSPP is low to the ground and easy to maintain! In addition to cleaning the modules, a General Mechanical Inspection for loose or damaged parts should be performed every 6 months. The area below and around the CSPP PV array must be continuously maintained to be kept clear of obstructions and high vegetation. All electrical functions concerning power generation, energy storage, power distribution, are autonomous and the CSPP is factory commissioned with remote sense and report, remote control, and multi layer safety protections.
ITC, IRA, AND RENEWABLE ENERGY TAX CREDIT INFORMATION

To claim the 30% Investment Tax Credit (ITC), you must file the appropriate IRS form with your annual federal income tax return for the year your system was placed in service. This is a tax credit, not a direct rebate, meaning it reduces your tax liability dollar-for-dollar.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Before claiming the credit, ensure you meet the following criteria:
You must own the solar energy system (it cannot be leased or rented).
The system must be new or being used for the first time.
It must be installed at a residence you own in the United States (this can be your primary or a second home). For a business, it must be installed on a property you own.
The system must be placed in service between January 1, 2022, and December 31, 2032, for the full 30% credit (the percentage is scheduled to decrease in later years).
Step-by-Step Claiming Process
The process differs slightly depending on whether you are an individual homeowner or a business owner:
For Individuals (Homeowners)
Keep Documentation: Save all receipts, invoices, and documentation related to the cost and installation of your system.
Complete IRS Form 5695: Download the most recent version of Form 5695, "Residential Energy Credits," from the IRS website. You will use Part I of this form to calculate your credit amount based on your total eligible costs.
Transfer the Credit Amount: The final calculated credit amount from Form 5695 will be transferred to Schedule 3 (Form 1040), line 5, and then onto your main Form 1040 to reduce your tax liability.
File Your Taxes: Attach Form 5695 and Schedule 3 to your federal income tax return.
For Businesses
Keep Documentation: Maintain detailed records of all project costs and operational status.
Complete IRS Form 3468: Businesses must file Form 3468, "Investment Credit," as part of their corporate tax return. You'll use this form to calculate the credit.
Attach to Tax Return: Attach Form 3468 to your business tax return for the year the system is placed in service.
Important Considerations
Tax Liability: The ITC is a non-refundable credit, meaning it can reduce your tax bill to zero, but you will not receive a refund check for any excess credit.
Carry Forward: Any unused portion of the credit can generally be carried forward to the following tax year(s), allowing you to use the full value over time.
Consult a Professional: Tax situations are unique; consulting with a tax professional or financial advisor is recommended to ensure proper documentation and filing for your specific circumstances.

10 PM - 12 AM 0.0 1.5 -1.5 28.0 → 25.0 BESS handles nighttime load
Resilience Analysis
The chart illustrates a highly resilient system:
Daily Energy Balance: The system generates a net daily surplus (28 kWh gen - 25 kWh load = +3 kWh).
Indefinite Operation: Under the specified conditions, the BESS recharges fully every day, allowing the system to run indefinitely during a prolonged grid outage without external power input.
Backup Capacity: The 40 kWh battery has enough capacity to cover the full daily load approximately 1.6 times without any solar input [1.6].
High Self-Sufficiency: The system can handle multiple days of reduced sunlight while maintaining critical loads, providing superior power resilience.

A chart visually representing the power resilience is presented below, illustrating the battery's State of Charge (SOC) over multiple days during a potential long-duration grid outage or sunless period.
Conceptual Graph: Battery State of Charge During a Prolonged Outage
Time PV Generation (Daily Total kWh) Home Load (Daily Total kWh) BESS State of Charge (Start of Day, kWh) BESS State of Charge (End of Day, kWh) Days of Autonomy
Normal Operations 28 25 Cycles between ~5 kWh and 40 kWh daily System is self-sufficient with surplus Indefinite
Outage Day 1 (Sunny) 28 25 ~5 (morning low) ~40 (full by afternoon) System fully sustains load
Outage Day 2 (Sunny) 28 25 ~5 (morning low) ~40 (full by afternoon) System fully sustains load
Outage Day 3 (Cloudy/Zero PV Input) 0 25 40 (full) 15 (discharged by 25 kWh) System relies solely on BESS
Outage Day 4 (Cloudy/Zero PV Input) 0 25 15 0 (fully discharged) BESS depletes, auxiliary power needed
Resilience Analysis and Auxiliary Power Needs
The system provides a very high level of power resilience due to its positive daily energy balance (28 kWh generated vs. 25 kWh used) during normal operations.
1. During Normal Solar Conditions:
The system is entirely self-sufficient and can run indefinitely off-grid, with the 40 kWh BESS ensuring continuous power delivery overnight and recharging daily. No auxiliary power is needed.
2. During a Prolonged Sunless Period (e.g., severe storm, very heavy cloud cover):
The resilience is determined by the BESS capacity relative to the home load without any solar recharge:
BESS Capacity: 40 kWh
Daily Load: 25 kWh
Days of Backup (zero sun): 40 kWh / 25 kWh ≈ 1.6 days

CONCLUSION
Under typical conditions in Wilmington, NC, with average solar input, the system will not need auxiliary power. In the extreme case of a prolonged sunless period (e.g., a multi-day storm), the battery would be depleted within approximately 1.6 days. Auxiliary power would be needed starting on the second day of a complete sunless period (specifically, after the initial 1.6 days of stored energy are consumed). The exact duration of the sunless streak determines when the auxiliary source (like the grid or a generator) becomes necessary. The system is designed to handle short-term outages and even one full sunless day, but not consecutive days of zero production.
